Wallada Bint al Mustakfi was an Andalusian princess, daughter of the last Umayyad Caliph of Córdoba. She was born in 994 and benefited from a sophisticated and free education. She organized literary salons at her home where great minds, poets and artists met to recite poems, discuss fervently and play music.
She was one of the first women to reject the shackles of medieval traditions that impeded her autonomy and personal freedom.
She leaves the veil and her biographers write that she wears transparent harem clothes in full public.
She leaves behind a work of fiery poems inspired by her love story with the great poet of Córdoba Ibn Zaydoun
“Be ready for my visit to the dark,
Because the night is the best keeper of secrets
If the sun could feel the extent of my love for you
It would no longer shine,
The moon would never rise again,
And the stars would fade away!”
